Assistant Professor Andrew Colopy and Professor in the Practice Danny Samuels, co-directors of Rice Architecture Construct, received $50,000 in funding as part of the Rice University Energy and Environment Initiative. Their proposal "Living Grid: Optimizing the Energy and Environmental Design of Accessory Dwellings Units in Houston" is a collaboration with the CENHS, Center for Energy and Environmental Research in the Human Sciences, and will be led by Andrew Colopy and Dominic Boyer, professor and director of CENHS, with Danny Samuels and industry partners, Rice Architecture alumnus Joe Meppelink of METALAB, Mobile Grid and Joey Romano of Local Sun, Mobile Grid. The project will kick off this fall as part of Totalization, and will continue Construct's research into the value of secondary dwellings--in this phase, examining their potential direct and indirect energy benefits for Houston.
