Situated on an infill lot in an established Houston neighborhood, this house and studio is sited to preserve all five mature trees. An 1800 sf house is linked to a 700 sf studio by an expansive metal roof that shades, protects, and unites all programmatic elements. The spaces are layered with stacked windows, providing ample light and views oriented to garden areas to the north and east. The roof directs rainwater to a rock-filled swale designed to distribute water to the garden, and the dog-trot porch (with its upper bridge) is a year-round room and circulation element that serves as a transition from living to working.
