This seminar examines the rapid and ongoing urbanization of the world’s coastlines amid increasing environmental hazards. Each class will discuss key theories of landscape, urbanism, post-humanism, and animal studies. Throughout the semester, students will research a chosen international case study of coastal development and develop a written and illustrated analysis. In the last part of the semester, these individual papers will be combined into a booklet that serves as a field guide to the global littoral.
