Jing Liu, co-founder of SO-IL, and adjunct assistant professor at Columbia GSAPP, presents a Noon Talk at 12:00 p.m. via Zoom as part of the Rice Architecture Mentorship Lecture Series.

Since the conception of SO-IL, the architecture firm has endeavored to engage the persisting challenges of housing - the architecture typology that is the foundational building block of late urbanization and the key to many social and environmental issues that are the prelude to and arise from such urban development.

Jing will share during this hour the collection of projects, built and otherwise, the office worked on that expose some of these challenges and how the firm used the practice of architecture to address them.

Rice Architecture Mentorship Lectures are initiated by the Rice Society of Architecture, aiming to address students' will and focus. The invited lecturers are selected by students to speak on their work and more over their design under the circumstances of today’s time -- this year COVID -19. The aim of the lecture series is to further assist students on these interests upon the school’s curriculum while more broadly fostering understanding in architecture.
