Federico Farinatti is a photographer and architect who develops visual languages that convey and decipher the atmosphere of a space. His work has been widely published and exhibited, including in Zurich Primer: A Propositional Planning Vision for the City (2026) and at Indievisuals AG, Photo Schweiz 23, F’AR Lausanne, the Rhode Island School of Design, and ZAZ Bellerive. In 2018, he won first prize in the Swiss Society of Engineers and Architects’ cultural heritage photography competition.
A graduate of the Accademia di Architettura di Mendrisio, Farinatti worked at Caruso St John Architects and Penzisbettini Architekten in Zurich before venturing out on his own as a teacher and independent photographer. He has collaborated with architecture offices, online and print magazines, and academic institutions worldwide, lecturing at EPFL, ETH Zurich, HES-SO Fribourg, the Accademia di Architettura di Mendrisio, and teaching at the Porto Academy Summer School and the Studio Maria Conen Chair for Architecture and Housing at ETH Zurich. Besides teaching and photography, he works on personal research projects and publications with a strong focus on Swiss and Italian architectural heritage.
