Contemporary Arts Museum Houston (CAMH) recently announced the appointment of Rice Architecture alumna Melissa McDonnell Luján, M.Arch. ’10, as the organization’s deputy director. Luján brings to the position a depth of leadership experience as a manager of complex capital projects and operations, particularly in the arts nonprofit sector—most recently at the Menil Collection.
Reflecting on her time as a student at Rice Architecture, Luján said, “The intellectual rigor, disciplined processes, empathy for the community, and exuberant creativity that underpinned my education at Rice are invaluable lessons for my new role as the deputy director at CAMH.”
Igor Marjanović, the William Ward Watkin Dean of Rice Architecture, celebrated and applauded the appointment: “As creative fields with so much in common, architecture and the fine arts play pivotal roles in how we perceive and change the world we live in. I cannot think of a better person to help build bridges between them than Melissa. We are so proud of her success and this important recognition, and we look forward to new collaborations between our two institutions.”
