Rice Architecture Student Wins Second Place in Houston Centered Policy Challenge Competition

Congratulations to Rice Architecture sophomore Marlena Fleck, Connor Rothschild (Social Policy Analysis '21), Alec Tobin (Sociology '20), and Allison Yelvington (Sociology '20). They won second place in the Houston Centered Policy Challenge hosted by the Center for Civic Leadership for their proposal “Backyard Neighbors.” Teams were tasked with the challenge to propose a policy pitch to combat the problem of affordable housing in Houston based on several guiding prompts. “Backyard Neighbors” proposed a policy to incentivize the construction of Accessory Dwelling Units in high opportunity areas to be rented out to Housing Choice Voucher Recipients.
