This studio seeks a precedent-based building design that is perceived as intrinsically without reference, or in which its references are unrecognizable. Following a critical approach to the imagistic tendencies of architectural quotation, the studio is underpinned by the concept of 'example,' illustrated by our interpretation of Lucretius' notion of the clinamen. Broadly speaking, this understanding includes the absolute transformation of sources as they 'collide' with one another, producing not images of their aggregation but altogether new and internally consistent forms.
