Our school embraces collective conversation not only in our studios, seminars, and reviews, but also in our hallways, galleries, and maker spaces.

This dialogue permeates everything we do, including our public programs. The topics we explore each semester are varied–from material and formal experimentation to access and disability–and we lean into this exchange of voices and perspectives to better understand each other, our field, and the world around us.

All lectures are free and open to the public.  Dates and times are subject to change; please consult our calendar of events.

Lectures are supported by the Betty R. and George F. Pierce Jr., FAIA, Fund; the William B. Coleman Jr. Colloquium Fund for Architecture; the Wm. W. Caudill Lecture Series Fund; and the Rice Design Alliance Endowed Fund.

Llewelyn-Davies Sahni Innovative Practice Lecture

Established in 2011 by a generous gift from Randhir Sahni, M.Arch. ’71, the Llewelyn-Davies Sahni Innovative Practice Lecture Series brings distinguished scholars, practitioners, and thought leaders to the Rice University School of Architecture.

Each year, the programming committee for the school, consisting of the dean, faculty, and staff, invites a practitioner who is redefining the architectural discipline with groundbreaking work and innovative professional practice. Through lectures and conversations with students, faculty, and the larger Houston public, these trailblazers share their insights, research, and perspectives with our community. This lecture series is open to the public and provides a platform for considering innovations in design practice from around the world.

Randhir Sahni, M.Arch. ’71, is principal of Llewelyn-Davies Sahni, an award-winning, Houston-based architectural, planning, and urban design consulting firm affiliated with Llewelyn-Davies offices in London and works internationally and throughout the United States.
