W 9:30 a.m. - 12:00 p.m., Anderson Hall, Room 230

This seminar introduces students to oral forms of architectural criticism through reading and discussion of theoretical writings on oral history and interviewing methodologies. We will study and practice the skills and techniques required to conceptualize, conduct, edit, and disseminate oral histories. The course will address the dynamics of the interview by means of analysis, and first-hand accounts of invited speakers who will provide insight into interviewing and oral history as a more recent method of historiography. Seminar participants will conduct interviews with selected interlocutors who have shaped the Rice Design Alliance and Cite Magazine. The transcribed and edited conversations will be published as an integral part of Cite 104
