William T. Cannady

Profile

A Fellow of the American Institute of Architects, Will Cannady began his teaching career at Rice University in 1964. He held joint teaching assignments in the Jones Graduate School of Business and the George R. Brown School of Engineering in addition to serving as a visiting lecturer and critic at many distinguished institutions. He was also a founding member of the Rice Design Alliance. In 2000, the Rice Board of Trustees awarded him with a Meritorious Service Award for his service in leading major changes to campus planning and parking systems.

In his architectural practice, Cannady has designed and built over two hundred projects. His firm’s work has been honored with sixty-five design awards and has been published in local, state, national, and international periodicals and journals. Cannady was awarded Educator of the Year Award from the Houston Chapter of the AIA in 2010 as well as the 2021 Meritorious Service Award from the Association of Rice Alumni.

Cannady is a past president and member of the Houston Philosophical Society, former member of the Advisory Board of Med Center Bank and Frost Bank in the Texas Medical Center. He served on the Real Estate and Master Site Plan Committee of the Menil Collection.
